Beach-ready beauty tips for your skin

Spring is in the air and that means all of us are beginning to realize that bathing suit season is also here. The idea of anyone seeing you in a swimsuit, shorts, or dress this time a year can be anxiety building.

Most of us try to crowd into the gym and find a way to shed the unwanted Christmas weight that is still lingering around the thighs for that darn cookie platter that was calling your name in December. But don’t lose hope too quickly, there is always a way to feel beach, picnic and shorts ready in spite of how prepared you feel for spring and summer.

Exfoliation:
If you feel like your skin is dry and flaky from the months of wearing jeans and sweaters try using Neutrogena Sugar Scrub Body Exfoliator, Energizing Citrus in the shower with a loofa. The scrub only costs about $10, you can pick it up at any drug store and some grocery stores. It is the perfect fix for that last minute beach invite that requires an emergency fix. The great thing about Neutrogena sugar scrub is that it not only smells refreshing and leaves your skin with a happy glow, it also is not to rough. Some body scrubs can leave your skin feeling raw and over-exfoliated; this scrub is the perfect combination of exfoliation and gentle goodness!

Self Tanning:
There are a million self tanners out there and believe it or not some of them are amazing fixes to having sheet-white legs and arms from months of not having any sun exposure while some self tanners are horrible, streaky, orange messes that will make you wish you had left your legs white. The last thing you want is to be frantically looking through all of the options at a grocery store an hour before you are scheduled to meet up with friends desperately trying to figure out if you are getting a good or a bad self tanner.

Without fail, the best self tanner that can be bought at a drug or grocery store is L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Gelee, which comes in medium and dark tints. You can go from having pasty white skin to having a natural, sparkly glow in seconds with this product. If you need to even out your skin tone, (i.e. Your legs are whiter than your arms), this bronzer creates a subtle color that merges with any skin pigment nicely and does not turn your skin orange. Unfortunately, all self tanners smell, but if you mix L’Oreal Sublime Bronze in with a bit of your normal scented body lotion the smell is not noticeable at all and the lotion helps to avoid streaks.

Lotion with pizzazz:
If you are in a rush or just dislike self-tanners a lotion with a soft scent and a little bit of sparkle can do the trick. There really isn’t a “best buy” when it comes to lotion. What you buy really depends on your needs. If you have dry and or fair skin try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Body Gloss Lotion with Vitamin E, the coco butter helps with the dry and flaky areas while the shimmer gives your skin a natural glow. If you have normal to oily skin try Jergen’s Soft Shimmer Skin Radiance Moisturizer. This is a light lotion that is not greasy or thick and is perfect for making your skin look bright and summer-ready.
