Beach Ball Comics, one of Southern California’s premiere comic retailers, is making sure your 2013 begins with a bang. The first quarter at the store is already filling up with huge signings and appearances by some of the top creators in comics and big events to draw you into their doors. Mark your calendars and head over to Beach Ball. Here is a look at the upcoming events:
Saturday, January 12 beginning at 1 p.m. it is the “Star Wars #1” launch party featuring hot comic writer Brian Wood (“Conan”, “DMZ”, “X-Men”), artist Carlos D’Anda and letterer Michael Heisler. “Star Wars #1” will be released Wednesday January 9 from Dark Horse Comics and it is the Star Wars you remember straight from the movies. Picking up on the adventures of Luke, Leia and Han shortly after the destruction of the first Death Star this series highlights what we all love about the space epic. The series is going to be huge in 2013 and Beach Ball is introducing you to the creators behind it.
Saturday, January 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. it is the ‘Magic the Gathering Gatecrash’ Prerelease. You will be among the first to score the new ‘Gatecrash’ series as well as win some great prizes.
Saturday, February 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. it is the wrap party for Tom Morello and Scott Hepburn’s “Orchid”. This widely popular series is coming to an end and Beach Ball Comics is sending it out with a bang with the rock superstar Morello and the series artist Hepburn appearing and signing at the store. Beach Ball Comics is keeping the full details of this event under wraps for now, but they promise this is an event you do not want to miss.
Sunday, February 10 it is The Walking Dead mid-season return party. No one wants to deal with zombies on their own so come to Beach Ball and be surrounded by friends as the series restarts. Be sure to pick up the latest comic book installment of Robert Kirkman’s ongoing story while you’re there.
Wednesday, February 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. you will meet the creators of the new Image Comics series “The End Times of Bram and Ben” with co-writers James Asmus and Jim Festante, and the cover artist Jaw Cooper. There are more details to come but this is one event you won’t want to miss.
Wednesday, February 20 at 5 p.m. is your chance to meet the next big thing in comic book writers as Sam Humphries makes his return to Beach Ball Comics. The writer for Marvel NOW’s “Uncanny X-Force”, Marvel’s “Ultimate Comics Ultimates” and his self-published “Sacrifice” will be available to sign copies of all of his books.
Wednesday, March 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. meet the creators behind the future of the Star Wars Universe. The creative team of writer Corrina Bechko and writer/artist Gabriel Hardman launch “Star Wars Legacy” from Dark Horse Comics. The series focuses on Ania Solo the descendant of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa-Solo and her adventures through a galaxy gone bad.
