December 14th, 2013 will mark the one year Anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut.
On that very sad day a profoundly disturbed Adam Lanza murdered his mother, drove to the school where she worked and opened fire on 20 children and 6 staff members of the Sandy Hook School killing 26 people and then killing himself.
One year later the nation prepares to remember the 20 innocent children and 6 adults murdered that fateful day.
So many were deeply affected by this and a couple of songwriters got together and starting talking about it. They talked about how great it would be if a song could make a difference and bring about change.
They thought about the parents of the children taken so needlessly and the despair the parents must have felt and still feel.
They thought, what if? The result of that conversation were these words:
If I could write a song to ease the pain, and sorrow in your eyes,
bring peace and hope for tomorrow, you know I'd write it.
If I could change the world with some chords, words and a melody, you bet I'd play it.
If I could take the grief and replace it with sweet relief you know I'd do it in a heart beat.
That is the first verse of this song.
This is the chorus.
Be The Change
That you want to see
Be the Peace
That needs to be
You can really make a difference
You can really make a change
if you can see it
Oh, you can be it
