Last night's episode of "Be the Boss" titled, "Signal 88 Security" put two outstanding employees against each other to give them the opportunity for a promotion of a lifetime. "Signal 88 Security" started in 2003 and provides security services for individuals and businesses in 42 states.
Reed Nyffeler, CEO and co-founder has called in two of their best employees to Omaha, Neb. to vie for a promotion. Quincy is the director of business development in Austin, Texas and Michelle is the office manager of Signal 88 Security in Aurora, Colo. and is known as the "Bulldog," because of her tough attitude.
These two people are looking to double their salary and will be tested to see who will win the promotion. The first test begins immediately and Quincy is thanking his lucky stars for good deodorant because his body jumped by several degrees when he heard the news.
Their first test was the Officer Training Course that all field reps take using physical obstacles and real-life security scenarios. When they reached the facility, Tim Conahan, the chief operations officer was there to beckon them to the top of the training tower. They had to repel off the top of the tower as Michelle was close to a panic attack and Quincy was doing very well and guided Michelle down the building.
Next they had to patrol a neighborhood on a bicycle. They found a crowbar by a door and the door was ajar. They were then sent to a building that had smoke coming out of a window. They were judged on their radio protocol, actions taken and they had to act accordingly. Quincy rescued the dummy that was planted in the building; while Michelle did not risk herself to give assistance.
They then met Reed to go over the events of the day. The next test will be to lead a team. They will perform stadium security at a minor league baseball game which includes hiring and managing staff and identifying incoming security threats. Quincy and Michelle were both confident in this part of the test. They met with Dan Cisar, the vice president of operations to evaluate them on their hiring capabilities and ability to train a team. Michelle is now in her element, while Quincy has not shown any qualms about any task so far.
They had to choose three of the five candidates they were given. Michelle's choices seemed better to Dan than the ones Quincy chose. As the tests were being conducted, the hidden alcohol was discovered by Michelle's team, but not by Quincy's. All three scenarios were caught and corrected by Michelle's team, while Quincy's team missed all three.
Michelle was thrilled and now the final test was the next day for their final interview. The families have arrived for encouragement. Quincy's daughter and girlfriend arrived and Michelle's boyfriend came to give her the encouragement she needed.
The final interview came and they had to explain why they wanted and deserved the promotion. Quincy received the promotion and was sent out to celebrate with his family. He will be the national director of franchise. Not too long after the show was taped, Quincy left "Signal 88 Security" to pursue another career.
Michelle stayed behind and although disappointed, she won her own franchise. She was the epitome of what the franchise meant. She will be opening her own "Signal 88 Security" in her home state of Colorado. She was also presented with her own vehicle and starts her franchise early in 2013 thanks to "Be the Boss."
