Psalm 46:10(NKJV)
10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
How often do we have so much going on in our lives that it seems we are constantly moving? We never have time to just sit and be still. We often wonder if what we are doing in life the right thing for us to do, but then because our lives are so hectic we switch our thoughts and often times don’t come back to them.
Every day we think about what bills need to be paid; what activities we need to have our kids at; what needs to be done at work and how we are going to make it all happen in the time we have available. How often do we really sit and just listen for God’s still small voice to talk to us? Many times we just stress over all the things we can’t get done because we don’t have the time or finances to make it all happen. In fact some of us spend so much time stressing that we tend to leave God out of the equation altogether.
We as Christians often profess to others that we believe God can do anything in our lives, yet we forget to give him our worries. We try so hard to make sure we are doing everything we can to make things happen instead of just handing it over to God. Then, when we are at the end of our rope and feel like one gust of wind could cause us to fall into a never ending pit we cry out to God to save us, and every time, he does.
Sometimes however, we don’t see it. We miss his help because it comes in ways we don’t always understand. For instance, someone could be really struggling with their job and then all of a sudden they find themselves without one. The next thing you know, they are losing their home and everything else. All they might have asked God for was a new job then all of this happened. Then all of a sudden when they have lost everything, and maybe even living out of their car, someone takes them, God opens up doors to a new job, new home, just a whole new life. Sure it seems like they had to go through a deep, dark valley to get where they are now, but there was a reason for all of it. God wanted them to learn to lean totally on him. Some might say that was a hard lesson to have to learn, but God sees it as building our strength in him. He taught us to be still, quiet, and trust that he would bring us just what we needed in his timing according to his will and not our own.
No matter where you are, God has a way of reaching deep inside you and bring you back around to him when you have gone off the path he has chosen for your life. He can bring about heavy conviction about the talents he bestowed upon you, causing you to have this aching need to want to search for him and seek his direction for your life. When you get still and quiet in your life he will speak to you and let you know where he wants you to go and what he wants you to do if your heart is open to hear and receive what he has to say.
No matter what is going on in your life right now, be still for a little while. Seek God. Sit in his presence in prayer and listen to what he has for you. Be still and know that HE is God.
