Be part of a fairy tale with Cinderella – in Claremont

July 11, 2011 – She is a worker in her stepmother’s house, serving the whims of her two stepsisters, but with dreams as big and vivid as those of any other young girl.  She has a magical godmother who can turn pumpkins into carriages and rags into gorgeous satin gowns.  She has a pretty glass slipper and she wins the heart of a handsome Prince.

Who doesn’t know the story of Cinderella in any language and any country of the world?

Rodgers and Hammerstein created a faithful version of the story back in 1957, which starred Julie Andrews, for CBS, as something that was odd for the time:  a musical meant for television.  It is their creation that the Ben D. Bollinger’s Candlelight Pavilion is now presenting from Thursday through Sunday until July 31.

With Hilary Maiberger as Cinderella (you may recognize her because she is currently performing as Princess Jasmine in Aladdin: The Musical Spectacular at Disney’s California Adventure), and Allen Everman as the Prince, the show at the Pavilion delights with contagious songs like “Impossible” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful,” which are bound to send you home singing.  Through the creativeness of director John LaLonde and the choreography of Kami Seymour, there are moments in this show that seem truly magical!

This is a family event which children can attend dressed as their favorite prince or princess, and after which they can meet and take pictures with Cinderella. (It is not, however, anything but enjoyable for adults.  Aren’t we all fools for love?) Photographer Susan Brunasso will be at hand on Friday through Sunday shows to make a lovely picture available for purchase.  She is donating 10% of the proceeds to Shoes That Fit, a non-profit organization that supplies shoes to children in need. (See http://www.shoesthatfit.org)

As a special offer, and for a limited time, children 12 and under will receive a complimentary dinner (chicken strips with potato salad and fresh vegetable or three-cheese pizza with fresh vegetable) on Friday nights.  Reservations for this offer are required by calling 909.626.3296 ext 1.

Regular prices are $48-$68 for adults and $25-$30 for children 12 and under and the price includes dinner, show, and sales tax.  Appetizers, desserts, beverages and waiter’s gratuity are additional.  Online reservations can be made at http://www.candlelightpavilion.com

The show will perform Thursday through Saturday evenings at 6 pm and Sunday evenings at 5 pm.  Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 11 am.  The Candlelight Pavilion is located at 455 W Foothill Blvd, Claremont CA 91711.  Parking is free.
