This may not seem like the ideal time of year to visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, but it is worth the trip to check out the current exhibit, Orchid Daze: Lasting Impressions. The orchid house is always one of the garden's crown jewels, but the current display is a reminder of the beauty to be found at the gardens in any season. The exhibit uses the fantastic shapes and colors of these exotic flowers to invoke the work of impressionist painters Van Gogh, Monet, and Gaugin, with dizzyingly beautiful results.
The exhibition runs through April 13, and there are special events scheduled throughout this time, including the Orchid Society Show March 7-9, which will have hundreds of orchids on display and for sale, as well as raffle prizes. March 1-2 and April 5-6 are orchid market weekends, where there will be vendors on site selling orchids and orchid-themed jewelry and art. Of course, the regular gardens are open during this time as well, and if the weather is nice, simply walking the grounds is a great way to get a little exercise and spend some relaxing time with friends and family. If you'd like additional information about any of the flowers, there are always volunteers on hand who are happy to discuss the blooms, and there are guided tours of the exhibit every Saturday at 1 p.m.
