The Humane Society of the U.S., the ASPCA, and Puppy Mill Awareness want pet lovers to join them on Tues., April 16, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Capitol Building in Lansing, MI for Michigan Humane Lobby Day, a free event that,
provides animal advocates with a structured, comfortable setting in which to meet their elected officials. [They'll] organize and help prepare you for these meetings with insider tips and an overview of pending or upcoming legislation that directly impacts animals.
Humane Lobby Day is an annual event held in numerous states where animal lovers get together to let their state lawmakers know, in person, that they support animal protection and are against laws that, "would allow animals to be hurt and exploited." It's a full-day event that includes a lobbying workshop and an outline of animal-related bills in the state legislature. Face-to face appointments will be made for those attending Michigan Humane Lobby Day to meet with members of the state legislature or people on their staff in order to lobby for animal-friendly legislation.
Efforts by individuals and lobbying days like Humane Lobby Day are vital to letting state legislators know what's important to their constituents. In 2012, The Animal Legal Defense Fund rated Michigan as the fourth best in the nation as to animal protection laws, proof that events such as this help improve the lives of domestic, wild, and farm animals in the State of Michigan.
The registration deadline is Wed., April 10, 2013. Visit The Humane Society of the U.S. website for to get an advocate toolkit and for more information about Humane Lobby Day and animal-related legislation in the State of Michigan.
