If you knit or crochet as a hobby, but you are tired of making items that only you can appreciate and maybe you're bored trying to design something different, try expressing yourself as a Pop Culture Yarn Bomber. Actually, “bomb” isn’t a good choice of words. How about Yarn Blaster?
Per the Wikipedia definition of “Pop” Culture, it is referred to as ideas, perspectives, attitudes, memes, images, and other phenomena that are within the mainstream of a given culture. Yarn bombing, or "blasting" is a pop culture phenom and a great form of creative self-expression that, unlike graffiti, can be removed.
Instead of staring at those many bags and bins of extra yarn that you’ll never make another blanket or sweater with, dig deep and crochet or knit something to cover inanimate objects with it; cars, buildings or statues, and then chronicle your experience. People all over the world are doing it! In case you don't want to spend a lot of time making a huge item that you can never wear or give away, make a small sample of something you’re trying out.
Before you take a picture of your work think of a design you might have in mind. Better yet, look at people’s reactions. Feels good to share your talents with others, doesn’t it? Feels nice expressing your creative self and having others see it even if the granny square vest you were trying to create looks like a hot mess on a fire hydrant, right? You’re doing what you enjoy, you’re being inspired and you feel great! Now, take a photo of your beautiful yarn blast and make a blog about your blast experience. And there you are; you have implemented yourself into Pop Culture by adding your creative work into the Yarn Blast field! Wasn’t that fun? Have a blast and good luck!
