Be a part of the National Cross Country Championships, run the Community 4k

How often do you have the opportunity to see the country's best runners compete up close and personal?

The National USA Cross Country Championships will be held on February 15, 2014 at the Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder, CO where the best junior, post-collegiate, and masters runners in the country will compete to claim they are the best. The community has a unique opportunity to run in an open 4 km event immediately following the National Championship.

All races will be contended on a 2k loop on the back nine at Flatiron's Golf Course. The course is mostly flat with mostly sweeping turns and depending on the weather, the course should be reasonably fast.

Clint Wells, a coach for the Boulder Track Club had this to say in his recent interview for the BoulderUSAXC Throwback Thursday.

“If you have any inclination on running in February [or any cross country race], I would just say to go for it! Don't over think it. Don't worry about where you think you will place or your time.

Just go out and compete with those around you, push yourself and have fun! It will also be a good tune up and workout for any race you have coming up this spring.

I dont think you will look back (after a few hours rest) and think, I wish I didn’t do that.”

In order for all the championship races to be broadcast on USATF.tv, the race day schedule had to change, moving the community race to 1:15 in the afternoon.

Sean Nesbitt, the race organizer stated, "We made the change so that people could watch the Senior Men's and Women's Open races live via the web. We needed our races to be completed by 1pm so then the web feed can go to the Millrose Games which is one of the biggest indoor meets in the world."

This should also mean a larger crowd for the community race as people will be more apt to stick around after the Senior Men's race and cheer for their local heroes.

"I think there's an "adrenaline" factor with the community race occurring right after the pros run," Nesbitt offered. "From my own experience, I was at the Stanford meet in 2001 when Meb broke the American Record. I was warming up for the "B" heat of the 10,000 and could hear the announcer calling out the splits for that entire race and the excitement from the fans was absorbed by the 50 guys who were supposed to race next. We all toed that line probably thinking we could break 28:00 on that night."

"I think it's good for the sport, On February 15th, Running Junkies will get their fix."
