Okay, so the headline might be stretching it a little. I’m lucky some days to throw a few loose chicken nuggets and a potato on a cookie sheet for dinner. Life often gets in the way of our best intentions for mommies who run businesses, love our children, and try to squeeze in a little bit of adult time along the way.
But lately, I’m better at it than ever, thanks, in part, to my new tool Pinterest. What is Pinterest? Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, curate, and discover by posting ('pinning') images or videos to their own or others' pinboards and browsing what other users have pinned.
My favorite uses for Pinterest have nothing to do with business (although it is pretty useful there, too). I have three boards that help me manage my life as a mommy and an entrepreneur more effectively than I have since Franklin Covey’s paper planners went out of fashion. One simple board labeled “To make” holds all potential recipes and crafts that are simple, beautiful and inspiring. Each time I open the board to decide on a dish or a fun project with my sons, I feel inspired rather than overwhelmed. It is my own personal cookbook and full of recipes relevant only to my lifestyle: Easy, inexpensive (mostly) and kid-friendly. (Okay, except the array of Jell-O shot recipes that I’m saving for a mommies-only Saturday night.)
If you haven’t explored Pinterest as a life management tool I encourage you to do so. Need a bit of inspiration? Take a look at three of my boards:
