Be a fundraising Hero for Hope in 2014

Again this year, the ‘Be a Hero for Hope ’ Run-Walk will take place in effort to fundraise for Family Shelter Service (FSS) of DuPage County. Last year, a Rocky Horror Picture Show troupe, Completely Crazy, raised nearly $5,000 in support of the event.

This particular troupe just happens to perform every Saturday at Hollywood Boulevard in Woodridge. In their spare time, they like to help the community around them.

Ruth is displaying just what it takes to fundraise in a unique fashion for those people in a community that could use a little TLC of their very own! It just goes to show that it does not matter how the word gets out, but that it does get out! When interviewed by FSS personnel, Ruth Finkwinter, a troupe member who plays Magenta and also acts as the troupe’s unofficial social media guru, publicist and philanthropy ambassador had this to say, "When I learned about the number of people FamilyShelter Service helped in our own community, I wanted to get involved." Each week starting in late July, Ruth passes the hat at the performance. "I ask them for spare change and tell them no amount is too small."

This Rocky Horror Picture Show troupe combines their efforts with an active social media campaign and other various strategies. Their efforts help to fill the tills in support of the Family Shelter Service mission: Transforming lives by offering help and hope to those affected by domestic violence.

Not only does Ruth and the other members of the cast reach out locally, they also do so globally by contacting other Rocky Horror Picture Show troupes to join them in their efforts. FSS has received money from all over the country! This year their goal is to raise $4,711 for the program. (The reason for this unique goal amount is listed on the FSS Facebook page.

Although an acting troupe has connections that you may or may not have personally, be assured that you, too, can be a fundraising Hero for Hope! All you have to do is join FSS on September 28th. It will be a morning of fitness, fun, music, food and most importantly, an opportunity to stand together as a community against domestic violence!
