The Queen City will host the “King of the Blues” for 2 days of appearances on January 12 and 13 at the posh Knight Theater in Uptown Charlotte. BB King, backed by his talented band, will take audiences through songs, stories and humor collected over his 86 years.
His audiences have been diverse for decades as his fan base reaches around the world. Parents and grandparents bring their children with them to his concerts. Many adults, recent concert goers, have enjoyed witnessing living blues history for the first time during this tour as indicated by their reviews.
There was a time when Mr. King toured for about 300 days out of the year. His road tour schedule has been shortened in recent times. This is not to say, however, that his days off are purely dedicated to rest and relaxation. His management indicates:
He works 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off..... year round..... 3 - 4 shows per week. They tour with 2 buses.... one for him, and the other for the band. Most of the shows are one nighters..... so he is constantly on the move from city to city. He enjoys what he does, and that's why he continues to work at this point in his life.
In his off time he relaxes, he works..... and does things that every normal person would do.
BB is still strong of voice, and gets his guitar “Lucille” to reflect true blue emotion transmitted from his fingertips. It must be a challenge dealing with the pinpricks related to controlling diabetes.
As he told me recently, BB King is from a breed of “tough old men.” Retirement does not look to be an option in the foreseeable future.
