Oh, those "Baywatch" babes! They seemed invincible, running down the beach in their bikinis. Now one of those bikini babes, Gena Lee Nolin, is all grown up, and she's revealing the details of how she coped with the devastating consequences of thyroid disease in a new book that she co-authored "Beautiful Inside and Out: Conquering Thyroid Disease with a Healthy, Happy, "Thyroid Sexy" Life" (click for additional details).
For Gena, it took years to find someone to diagnose her. She suffered symptoms such as exhaustion, brain fog, hair loss and weight gain before she learned that she had Hashimoto's disease and hypothyroidism, according to Digital Journal. The first part of the book tells Gena's story, including how she professionally rose to fame while personally struggling with her symptoms. She was among the "Baywatch" women forbidden to gain or lose five pounds under a contract clause: Read all about it by clicking here.
The co-author of the book is thyroid patient advocate Mary Shomon, author of "The Thyroid Diet Revolution: Manage Your Master Gland of Metabolism for Lasting Weight Loss" (click for details). She contributed in particular to the second part of the book, which includes details on the function of the thyroid, symptoms, finding the right doctor, getting tested and selecting the right treatments.
"Many doctors say that thyroid disease is easy to diagnose, and easy to treat. But as a patient advocate, I hear from thousands of thyroid patients every month, and I know that is frequently not the case. Many of us need far more than the standard tests and cookie-cutter treatments in order to feel well. That's why we've explained it all in the book, along with information we've learned the hard way -- about everything from prescription medications, to vitamins, to going gluten-free, to tips for thinning hair and low sex drive. We want every reader to walk away practical solutions that to help them feel and look great!" said Mary.
Part 3 features the weight struggles both women experienced. Included are nutrition, diet and exercise tips and tricks to take off the pounds and keep them off. Other features include beauty tips and resources.
