Newly crowned IBF Interim jr. flyweight champion, and Mandaue City native Johnriel "Quadro Alas (4 Aces)" Casimero received a hero's welcome in Cebu today after his gutsy win in Argentina which was marred with one of the ugliest post-fight melees in a long time.

Casimero, together with his promoter Sammy Gello-Ani and trainer Pingping Tepora were greeted by members of the Cebu media upon their arrival at the Mactan International Airport, then proceeded on a motoracade that took them around the surrounding cities of Lapu-lapu, Mandaue and Cebu, and ended at the Baseline restaurant for a press conference, this according to Rene Bonsubre of Philboxing.com.

Other than a small bandage on his left brow, Casimero appeared unscathed, and the team in high spirits after the horrific ordeal they had to endure when an upset Argentinian crowd mobbed them after the fight.

But despite being kicked, punched, and hit with bottles and chairs, Gello-ani said not everybody in the crowd at Club Once Unidos in Mar del Plata sought to hurt them.

“There were Argentinians who helped us,” Gello-ani was quoted in the Philboxing story. “Not all of them were mauling us. There were those who helped us to go towards the locker room, Oswaldo Prado helped Casimero, who he saw hide under the ring. There were those who helped us go back to our hotel,” he added.

Unfortunately, despite the disturbing incident, the President of the Argentine Boxing Commission Osvaldo Bisbal, insisted that everything was fine and that there is no need to punish anyone for the incident. "Everything is fine," Bisbal was quoted by Ronnie Nathanielsz.

Brisbal even arrogantly dismissed any punishment that may be handed by the IBF or any international sanctioning body. "We laugh at the sanctions of the International sanctioning bodies they have no type of authority to do so," said in an interview with Argentine daily El Clarin.

With this kind of attitude, one has to seriously wonder why anyone would want to fight in Argentina. Everything is fine? I guess the Argentine boxing commission felt no embarrassment with what transpired, and the fact that referee Eddie Claudio and members of Team Casimero were rushed to the hospital, and that Luis Lazarte not only fought dirtier than a pile of trash, he also threatened the referee's life.

Preposterous!
