On Saturday November 5, 2011, The Bay Area Science Festival will host a regional star party at more than 20 different sites around the Bay area.Colleges, schools. observatories and science museums across the Bay Area will be open and professional and amateur astronomers will be available to offer telescope viewing and observing tips. if the sky is cloudy, many sites will have indoor astronomy activities. Some sites will also have astronomy talks and other events regardless of the weather.
Sites in the East Bay that will be participating include: The Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland and both Chabot College and Cal State East Bay in Hayward.
In Los Altos, Foothill College will be co-hosting its Star Party with the Peninsula Astronomical Society, the Seti Institute and NASA's Lunar Science Institute. Telescopes from the Peninsula Astronomical society will be set up outside the observatory if the sky is clear. Regardless of sky conditions, members of the LunarScience Institute will conduct an indoor program providing handouts, displaying Moon rocks, ans Demostrating the online program Moon Zoo (through witch members of the public can analyze images coming back from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.)
