Arguably the fastest-growing fitness chain in the Bay Area, Bay Area Family Fitness (BAFFC) is now vying for the title of “krankiest” club in the Bay Area with the pending opening of its newest facility on Capitol Expressway in the Gould Shopping Center in San Jose and the introduction of the remarkable Krankcycle by Johnny G, founder of the first Spinning®bike .
The large and much-anticipated facility, which will open in early January, will offer an incredible variety of the latest fitness equipment from Matrix and FreeMotion, but the Krankcylcle is perhaps, the most unique addition to its arsenal of exercise paraphernalia featuring:
- Independent crank arms for greater variety of movement to keep users engaged
- Ergonomically designed saddle allows easy transition between seated and standing exercise positions
- Adjustable crank arm height encourages greater range of muscle activation
- Crank and flywheel assembly rotates to accommodate forward and reverse movements
- Narrow crank axis allows for higher RPMs, increasing speed and endurance
- Removable seat for wheelchair access and advanced movements
Previous arm-cranking exercise machines or Upper Body Ergometers have been almost exclusively designated for use by the physically handicapped who do not have the use of their lower extremities. However, in addition to its superior handicapped accessibility, the Krankcycle provides a challenging workout for even the most physically able individual to improve cardiovascular fitness, improve core strength and stability, Increase upper body strength and endurance, and afford an effective cross-training option.
Most health clubs – even if they do provide an Upper Body Ergometer (UBE) of some kind – typically will only have one or two, almost as an afterthought or token gesture to its handicapped members. The new BAFFC, however, has TEN Krankcycles in a bold statement intended to challenge members of every fitness level and physical persuasion.
Think you’re in shape? “Try the Krankcycle,” says BAFFC Fitness Manager Liz Gonzalez. “Then we’ll talk!”
