Bay Area Family Fitness opens Mega Club in San Jose

Hundreds of excited members streamed through the doors of the new Bay Area Family Fitness Center  in the Gould Shopping Center at 1035 E. Capitol Expressway in San Jose on opening day, but first over the threshold - again - was Ruth Eleanor Littmann-Ashkenazi.  The lithesome marketing and public relations writer and fitness buff holds the distinction of being the first member to work out on opening day at each of the company’s two San Jose locations.

Showing up promptly at 5:00 A.M., Ruth was soon glowing after 45 minutes of pumping iron in the free weight room followed by a vigorous Zumba class before going to work.  “It was awesome,” she said as she left with a smile.

As Ruth and other members quickly discovered, this is one club where members don’t have to wait in line for equipment – or classes.  The club features row after row of treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and Climbmills – each with individual Vistal Clear Television Technology and iPod compatibility – together with a complete line of the revolutionary new KRANKcycles by Johnny G.

Adjoining the humungous cardio area are dozens of the latest new selectorized strength training machines by FreeMotion and Matrix.  Free weights?  Suffice it to say that no other club in the Bay Area (and not many other places either) has anything comparable. More than 140 dumbbells from 5 lbs. to 200 lbs. line the length of the weight room capped on each end by flat benches, incline benches, decline benches, power racks, squat racks, Smith machines, lat machines, rowing machines, and more.

With three separate studios for group exercise, the club can accommodate three different classes at one time and already has more than 200 classes scheduled in its first month including Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba®, U-Jam, Body Sculpting, Cardio Kickboxing, Spinning®, and Kids Fitness among others.

Oh, and kids?   Membership is limited to members 12 years old and above, but there is a colorful room just for youngsters – aptly named the “Kids Zone” – where little ones can recreate under the supervision of mature (all over 18) attendants.  There is even a room where the older kids can do their homework, much to their chagrin.

All in all, this one big, beautiful health club and a major showpiece for Bay Area fitness enthusiasts. For further information, call 408-533-0636.  Visitors can purchase a one-week membership for just $15!
