Bay Area Family Fitness Centers (BAFFC) made their debut in the local health club market in a big way on April 15 by taking over a popular location closed by fitness giant 24-Hour Fitness on the same day. The site – located at 5278 Moorpark Ave in the Park Lane Plaza on the corner of Moorpark and Lawrence Expressway in San Jose – was operated by 24-Hour for several years as an “Active/Express/Fit Lite” facility and was previously a Linda Evans Fitness Center.
BAFFC President Dave Morrison, a 32-year veteran of the health and fitness industry and former co-owner of the popular Right Stuff Health Clubs in San Jose, has assembled an expert team of fitness professionals with more than 100 years of combined experience to launch the new chain of affordable fitness centers in the Bay Area. The Moorpark location is the first of several BAFF centers projected to open in the near future.
“We will be renovating the entire facility,” says Morrison, “to give everything a fresh new look, and we will be installing all new cardio, resistance training, and free weight equipment. We have already purchased more than $300,000 of equipment, but it might take a couple of months before we open so that we can redesign the interior to our quality specifications.”
A temporary modular building has been located on site in the parking lot for current 24-Hour members and local residents to enroll at discounted rates prior to the official grandopening. The greatest discounts will be offered to the first 200 members or through April 30, 2011 – whichever comes first - and rates will increase progressively in the following weeks as renovations approach completion. All memberships are month-to-month with no long-term contract required.
“Our philosophy is simple,” says Morrison confidently. “Our facilities will be first-rate, and our customer service will be second to none.” And he means it.
The new club is expected to open on or about June 15 and will be open Monday - Thursday from 5:00 A.M. – 11:00 P.M., Friday 5:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M., Saturday from 7:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M., and Sunday 7:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. For further information, readers can call 408-533-0625.
