The “Battlefield Hardline” beta on the PC was previously only open to those who were able to snag a code to join following the E3 2014 announcement last week. Electronic Arts opened the beta up to everyone Tuesday evening with the promise of perks for the final game.
PC players who head over to battlefield.com/beta to sign up for the “Battlefield Hardline” beta will be given immediate access. Origin is required but you will gain granted a beta-themed weapon camo/skin, weapon sight, additional “Hardline” content and a unique dog tag in “Battlefield 4.”
Those rewards will become available when the game launches in October. But, if you play enough of the “Battlefield Hardline” beta and reach rank 10, you will also receive a special Battlepack at launch. This is open for current PS4 beta participants as well.
Another perk available to both PC and PS4 players revolved around Facebook sharing. Flip the switch to enable Facebook sharing and you will receive $1,000 in-game cash to spend on weapons and gadgets.
The “Battlefield Hardline” beta was part of a surprise announcement during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference. The “Battlefield 4” and “Battlefield 3” beta both released a couple of weeks prior to the full launch of both games. Receiving the “Hardline” beta months in advance not only gives gamers a chance to try the game out but should hopefully result in a better product when the final version goes live.
“Battlefield Hardline” is a cops and robbers spin on the traditional “Battlefield” formula from Visceral Games. In the beta, a team of police and a team or criminals battle in a city over a pile of cash. The same mix of vehicle mayhem and on the ground combat remains but the game introduces new gadgets like grappling hooks and tasers.
“Battlefield Hardline” is currently set for an Oct. 21 release to the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. DICE recently announced that the Xbox One will eventually receive access to the beta as well.
