With “Battlefield 4” currently set to release this fall, gamers may be wondering how the upcoming installment of the popular shooter franchise might link to past games in the series. The official “Battlefield” Twitter account answered that very question on May 10 when it was revealed that, while “Battlefield 4” will be set in the same universe, it won’t be a direct sequel to “Battlefield 3.”
This means that events from the previous titles will still have happened and affected “Battlefield 4,” but no character or storylines from “Battlefield 3” will be returning or continued in the upcoming release.
“Battlefield 4” will be released this fall on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. When asked if the game might appear on next-gen consoles such as the PS4 or Xbox 720, developer DICE quickly points out that they have only announced a release on the current generation of platforms. It’s important to note that this answer neither constitutes a yes or a no, leaving the possibility open.
