Patrick Bach first stated that a video game does not have to look real in order to impress graphically. He used “Mirror's Edge,” which was also developed by the same studio, as an example. You can check out his comments form the interview below:

It is our enemy, but it's also the Holy Grail. If you can get the game to look and feel real, you can choose to do whatever you want. I think we've done that - take a game like Mirror's Edge, for instance. It's not photo-real, but it looks amazing, and that's possible because you have artists that are that good at creating something that looks so simplistic.

The executive producer went on to talk about the challenge of trying to achieve photo-realistic visuals. He believed that it is difficult creating graphics so advanced that all players wouldn't be able to tell the differences, admitting that it may not be possible. You can check out a selection of screenshots from “Battlefield 4” in the slideshow to the left of this article and his statement below:

To us, it's the challenge of knowing that you might never, ever be able to get exactly to the point where no-one can see the difference [between the game and reality]. And I think we are, to your point, trying to push that bar, to see how close we can get. And maybe for some people we are already there. To us it's like, we have so much to do.

Patrick Bach and the rest of his development team at Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment recently finished launching the aforesaid “Battlefield 4” for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms. In addition to preparing to release the DLC expansion packs, the studio is also fixing several glitches and other issues with the first-person shooter.

Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment is also developing the next installments of the “Mirror’s Edge” and “Star Wars: Battlefront” series.
