During GamesCom 2013 a “Battlefield 4” PC demo was available on the show floor. GamesCom is running from August 21 to August 25 so be sure to check back often for more demo reviews and gaming information.
As a fair warning for this review, I must confess that I do not play first-person shooter games and I’m absolutely awful at them; dying was what I saw the most of while demoing this. I have no loyalty to any FPS game or franchise. So this is a purely nonbiased pro and con rundown based on my experience in the game and my limited experience with the previous “Battlefield 3”.
The gameplay is identical to “Battlefield 3”, but with ramped up damage and a fresh coat of graphics paint. So those who liked the previous game are sure to still love this updated version.
Many gameplay modes are still available for those who want different play styles. For those who have time for a slower experience of conquering their enemy, Conquest is great, and for those who are short on time and just want to shoot some people, Rush, Domination and other modes are available.
Graphics and sound effects are really high quality. The wind blowing through the trees, the look of a storming sky and the crashing waves all added to the feel of the experience.
A lot of the unpolished graphic effects from “Battlefield 3” are still present. These are not gameplay related, but can take away a bit from the look of the game. For example, waves crash over rocks when there are no waves forming over the rest of the water. Swimming also looks pretty silly with your arms flailing even when you’re slightly over the water line.
