A battered dog named "Lea," was recently rescued from a housing project near Far Rockaway in Queens, N.Y., by local rescuer, Sloane Quealy-Miner.
According to Miner, Lea appears to have been tossed aside by someone who had treated her poorly.
Miner described some of Lea's injuries:
She has major scars all over her body as well as the major issue with her left eye. Her eyeball rolls inside her socket and the times that we are able to see it it is a cloudy color.
She has a bite above the eye as well which leads us as well as the vet to believe that her eye issues are a result of a bite that was left untreated.
Despite the obvious neglect and evidence of abuse, Lea has maintained a sweet disposition; Miner stated:
I have to tell you I am in awe of Lea. Despite all she has been through and the pain that her eye is causing her she has nothing but kisses and cuddles to give. She is so sweet and gentle. Everyone who meets her falls madly in love with her in seconds.
On Tuesday morning, Lea returned to the Animal Hospital of the Rockaways for further evaluation - the veterinarians are hoping to see if Lea's eye can be saved.
Regardless of the outcome, Lea is now safe and away from the people who treated her with such blatant disregard.
