Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman movie now has an official title. According to Deadline Hollywood, the DC superhero team-up movie will be called “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Warner Bros. announced the new title May 21st as it confirmed that the production has in fact commenced principal photography, which most fanboys already knew, since director Snyder released a photo of Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader.

Henry Cavill reprises the role of Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman from “Man of Steel.” Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane return in the roles of Lois Lane, Perry White and Martha Kent, respectively, while Jesse Eisenberg joins the Superman side of the slate as Lex Luthor. Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons will play Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred, played in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” iterations by Michael Caine. Israeli actress Gal Gadot of the recent “Fast and Furious” installments plays Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. Holly Hunter is also in the cast, in an as-yet unspecified role.

If the presence of Wonder Woman in the new movie or the fact that it's called “Dawn of Justice” aren’t clue enough, Deadline further reports that Snyder will next take the reins of the long-gestating “Justice League” movie. No release date has been set for that one, but DC and Warner Bros. have clearly been trying to move in the same direction as rival Marvel Studios, with standalone superhero movies that lead towards a massive team-up movie, á la “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

Joss Whedon, director of “Marvel’s The Avengers,” is currently shooting the sequel, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” now.

“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” is shooting at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, as well as in Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific. A May 6, 2016 release has already been announced.
