Batman: Arkham Knight is going to be the final send-off for Rocksteady in the series, and while they can always return to this world if they'd like, they are making sure these final round of characters are some of the most visceral yet.
Recently, Dax Ginn, who is a producer on Batman: Arkham Knight, discussed the types of traits and characteristics the development team wanted to give to each of the characters in the upcoming open-world title, Batman: Arkham Knight.
"I think generally, if we feel good about something, we kind of know that fans are going to like it – I don’t know if that comes out the right way.
"The design of Penguin, for example is a really different take on Penguin, he’s got this cockney accent, he’s got the bottle in his eye, it’s pretty brutal, gritty stuff. All of our characters have a mature angle, a gritty angle, but also quite a psychological angle to them.
"When we were designing the Arkham Knight, so long as we feel like we’re doing the right thing every step of the design process, I think fans will trust us when it comes to the final piece.
"Sanity checking that with DC as well, that’s an important part of it. It’s so awesome to have that open creative collaboration with them, because if we were wildly wrong, they would say something," Ginn said.
It must feel incredibly reassuring to have the ongoing support of DC as Rocksteady tries to innovate and create within a world that has already seen so much outstanding work done in it.
Batman: Arkham Knight has the tough challenge of trying to better its predecessors, but they have the pedigree and sufficient resources at their disposal to do so.
Real, believable characters have been a trademark of any Batman iteration, movie or game, lately, so the fact that Rocksteady wants to continue this trend in a real way bodes well for the success of Batman: Arkham Knight.
