Batida de Pumpkin: A Brazilian tradition with a Thanksgiving twist

Batida de Pumpkin
Batida de Pumpkin

Brazil is famously known for Caipirinhas (Brazil’s national drink) and cachaça (Brazil’s national spirit), but there are many other types of drinks cachaça is delicious in besides Caipirinhas. A Batida is a Brazilian tropical fruit cocktail made with cachaça. In Portuguese, batida means shaken or milkshake. Batidas are traditionally made with cachaça, fruit juice (or coconut milk) and sugar. The drink can be made blended or shaken with ice.

A Batida de Pumpkin takes a traditional Brazilian cocktail and gives it a Thanksgiving twist. Tropical fruit is replaced with pumpkin puree, making it a tasty and perfect drink to enjoy during the holidays.

Batida de Pumpkin

2 oz cachaça
1 oz pumpkin puree
½ oz half and half
¼ oz fresh lemon juice

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass. Add ice. Shake. Pour the entire contents of the mixing glass into a rocks glass. Garnish with pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin Puree

1 can of canned pumpkin
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp cloves

Mix all of the ingredients together. Keep refrigerated.
