Bathrooms (Photos)

Besides being “the spot” for our private hygienic moments and functions, the bathroom’s also a quiet haven (or should be) where we can “wash away” all of our everyday stresses (preparing to step forth “refreshed” into the madness once again), improving the overall quality of our lives.
Here’s a few décor tips and ideas:

For a Vintage look, a whisper of color on the walls will set a tranquil tone. Use some gossamer window valances, gentle lighting (achieved by using softly tinted glass and frosted light bulbs). A mix of comfortable seating (such as an upholstered bench or rocking chair) will make this room cozy; a gilded mirror and botanical art add heirloom charm.

Clean, Classic Blue and White-Sky-blue walls refresh the soul, while white cabinetry will look clean and crisp. A wall-size mirror above the sink has a dual purpose: It intensifies natural light, which makes the bathroom appear larger, and it also reflects the whimsical look of the pastel tiles. Matching extras add contemporary appeal.

For a tranquil European flair, consider using a creamy bisque and subtle green (like a mint shade). Accessories (like a rug, shower curtain and linen sink “skirt”) will soften the room’s hard edges, and the item treats (such as soap, candles and fresh flowers) will add a sense of luxury. An oak-framed mirror and wooden stool are charming décor touches, or a carved shelf filled with collectibles.

Boost Your Bathroom Comfort by:

  • Adding a Chair-It’s a perfect spot to drape clothing while bathing. Tiny space? Use a low stool instead.
  • Use Wall Art-When selecting wall art for the bathroom, bring in whatever makes you feel happy, whether it’s a landscape, a still life or a collection of old photos. Special Tip: Try to choose mats and frames in colors pulled from the room.
  • Increase the Luxury-Brushes, soaps and loofahs gathered in baskets has a lovely effect. Or shampoo and liquid hand soap can be put in antique bottles to make them look like one-of-a-kind items. Scented candles (Be careful!) add a lovely ambiance; go for refreshing floral, citrus and herbal fragrances rather than heavy musks.
  • Bring in Some Plants-Even if you only have a few inches of shelf space, try to bring in some fresh flowers or plants (Lavender, roses and daffodils all have light, fresh scents that work well in small rooms); not only does this bring the beauty of nature into the room, but also you don’t have to worry about the plants thriving. Most plants love a humid bathroom!

According to a recent consumer product poll conducted by Parade magazine, here’s shopping trend no. 8: We enjoy being pampered in the bathroom. “In spite of the bad economy, consumers still want to spend on small, everyday indulgences”, states brand director Kirsten Hadley.
Two to Try: Quilted Northern Ultra Plush (three ply (!) with “Innerlux layer”) and Dial Triple Moisture (a body wash that combines great cleansing with super moisturizing).
