Bated Breath, Strong Suit, and Sepoy are three betting odds favourites among a field of 15 sprinters in the Group 1 Darley July Cup on Saturday. Strong Suit leads all runners at the Newmarket meeting with a Timeform weight-adjusted ratings of 140, followed by Sepoy (138), Bated Breath (135), Ortensia (133), Society Rock (133), and Dandy Boy (130).
Earlier this week, Strong Suit was supplemented for the six furlongs event. The Richard Hannon-trained racehorse placed second behind Dream Ahead in the Middle Park Stakes as a two-year-old. However, racing tipsters are placing stock in Bated Breath. Roger Charlton’s thoroughbred has placed second four times at the highest level, including runner-up to Little Bridge in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot.
Rain has hampered race tracks throughout England this week, and Newmarket’s ground could see a slow side.
Godolphin’s Sepoy turns in an impressive record as a four-time Group 1 winner in Australia. The racehorse, previously trained by Peter Snowden, will be making his first start for Mahmood Al Zarooni. David Wachman's Fire Lily will represent the world’s preeminent stud farm in Coolmore.
The Cheka, Mayson, Sirius Prospect, Genki and Hawkeyethoo will also vie for glory in the Darley July Cup.
On Friday, trainer Richard Hannon will saddle City Image and Maureen in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes, also at Newmarket. City Image has placed two consecutive victories in a listed horserace.
