North Georgia outdoor enthusiasts are excited as Bartow County gets ready for the biggest $1 billion project just outside Cartersville. It’s being touted as “Georgia’s Orlando, Florida” privately backed by a number of capital partners “Georgia’s version of the ESPN Wide World of Sports” hosting the venue extraordinaire Shaw Industries’ Sportexe Division, a $40 million investment for the sports turf manufacturer.
A new Bass Pro Shops store and Atlanta Braves Spring Training site are set for the Emerson location according to Commissioner Clarence Brown and Major League Baseball. Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost (Walt Disney theme park visionary) said LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center is looking at 3 million visitor’s per year gave the project a “greenlight.” Other major hitting investors include Bartow County resident, retired Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox, and current Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez are looking to bring more than 26,000 jobs to construct.
According to Atlanta Business Chronicle a 300-acre sports complex with 16 baseball fields, 14 lacrosse fields and an indoor sports facility plus a 1000-acre retail, hotels, restaurants and amusements facilities are set for the location and is under development now.
Three tenants will anchor LakePoint
Perfect Game USA, a baseball scouting service, North Atlanta Soccer Association, and LB3 Lacrosse “the ultimate sports touring destination.” Expect to see the first pitch, shot and kick this year.
Five villages: Medical and Research Village
The biggest center for sports-related research and development in the world. “With twelve consecutive months of tournament play in different sports, LakePoint gives the perfect opportunity to be a “living laboratory” for sports performance companies, training, sports medicines and sports equipment.”
Lake Village
The master plan is for a resort hotel and restaurant on the shorelines of Lake Allatoona.
The Miracle League
Developing the whole person, a "safe and spirited” baseball program for local and visiting physically and mentally challenged children will be moving their corporate headquarters from Conyers to Emerson, to work on new inclusive sports to develop the whole person, The Daily Tribune News reported. A prayer team is being recruited and they are asking social media and soliciting financial donations in care of Bartow Baptist Association.
Retail and Entertainment Village
Restaurants, a movie theater, a go-kart track, bowling alley, retail “concept” stores for travel teams and their families.
Sports Village
The heart and soul of LakePoint is the sports village playing host to more than seventeen sports and 16 major league-size baseball fields, 14 soccer/lacrosse fields, 14 fast-pitch softball and junior baseball fields, 16-acre wake park, a Miriacle League field, a 11,400-square foot indoor facility for gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and sports performance training.
