Graham Maby, one of the best-known bass guitarists in rock, is staging several benefit shows in the coming weeks to help cover medical bills, insurance and other costs related to his wife Mary Beth’s battle against cancer.
The one show confirmed so far is on Oct. 21 at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, to include longtime associates Freedy Johnston and the Health & Happiness Show.
Those who can’t attend but want to support the cause can contribute to the Mary Beth Maby gift fund via PayPal, by going to the site and entering mbmaby.giftfund2011@yahoo.com.
Maby, of course, came to fame playing bass on record and tour for Joe Jackson starting with Jackson’s first album Look Sharp! in 1979. He has since recorded and/or toured with the likes of Graham Parker, Garland Jeffreys, the Silos, Darden Smith, They Might Be Giants, Natalie Merchant, Marshall Crenshaw, Joan Baez, Ian Hunter, Regina Spektor and Dar Williams.
