Bass, bream, catfish biting good in SC heat wave

You would think that with all of the heat we have seen lately here in South Carolina that the fishing would slow down a bit. While certain species have gone to deeper water, they are still biting. If you are on a large lake like Lake Marion in Santee, South Carolina you will be able to find huge catfish biting really well.

Bream are biting well on crickets and red worms. Some bream are still bedding in shallow water especially in ponds. And as it goes, when the bream are biting well, so will the largemouth bass. When bream are active, eating and bedding you will want to fish for the bass near deeper structure or drop off points. They sit there and ambush the bream that are going back and forth from deep to shallow water.

Largemouth bass are being caught on crank baits that dive about four feet or so. You can also use plastic worms, jigs or live bait like night crawlers. If you are fishing in stained water (because of the mud being stirred by bedding fish) then you want to go with perhaps a dark red colored lure. If you find a drop off point and structure near that drop off, just use some medium sized minnows. All of these are good options now for catching bass.
