Basketball teams that won the most consecutive NBA Championships

See also

The following is a list of the basketball teams that have won the most consecutive NBA Championships. I've listed all the teams that have won at least three straight NBA Championships.

As you will see, the list is not terribly long, as winning three consecutive NBA Championships is a tough task. This list is very relevant as the 2014 Miami Heat will make it three NBA Championships in a row if they can defeat the San Antonio Spurs for the second consecutive year in the 2014 NBA Finals. That would put the Miami Heat on this list.

Basketball teams that won the most consecutive NBA Championships

1. Boston Celtics - 8 consecutive NBA titles

The Boston Celtics hold the record for winning the most consecutive NBA Championships with eight. The Celtics record streak began in 1959 and ended with their eighth consecutive NBA Championship in 1966.

As great as the streak was, it could have been even longer. The Boston Celtics won the NBA Championship in 1957, and made it again to the finals in 1958, but they lost in six games to the St. Louis Hawks.

At the end of the streak, the Celtics lost to Wilt Chamberlain and the San Francisco Warriors in the semifinals in 1967, but then Boston rattled off two more championships in 1968 and 1969. Bill Russell was the key to all the championships over that era, but he had tons of help playing on rosters filled with Basketbal Hall of Fame players.

T-2. Minneapolis Lakers - 3 consecutive NBA titles

The Minneapolis Lakers won three consecutive NBA Championships from 1950 to 1952. The Minneapolis Lakers were a stocked team, as Slater Martin, George Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen, and Jim Pollard are all in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

T-2. Chicago Bulls - 3 consecutive NBA titles

Led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, the Chicago Bulls won three consecutive NBA Championships from 1991 to 1993.

T-2. Chicago Bulls - 3 consecutive NBA titles

Again led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, the Chicago Bulls won three more consecutive NBA Championships from 1996 to 1998. Had Michael Jordan not retired in 1993, the Chicago Bulls would probably have won eight consecutive NBA titles.

T-2. Los Angeles Lakers - 3 consecutive titles

Led by Shaquille O'Neill and Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers won three consecutive NBA Championships from 2000 to 2002.

T-2 Miami Heat - ??????

Will the 2014 Miami Heat add their name to this list by winning their third consecutive NBA Championship this year?
