Basketball teams in the Baltimore Catholic League have a long-standing tradition of intense competition, especially when it comes to their annual end-of-season tournament. But yesterday they started a new tradition as they teamed up with Catholic Charities to participate in a variety of service projects.
The eight high school rivals in the league worked in teams of two for the benefit of four Catholic Charities programs. Here’s what the players did on their President’s Day holiday:
- Loyola played host to Calvert Hall and residents from the Gallagher Group Homes spent the morning in Loyola’s gym playing basketball.
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Mount Saint Joseph teamed up for a morning of hoops with children at St. Vincent’s in Timonium.
- John Carroll School and St. Frances Academy participated in an afternoon of activities with residents at St. Elizabeth’s, St. Ann’s and Caritas House.
- Archbishop Spalding and St. Maria Goretti helped kids from Sarah’s House with homework, and enjoyed afternoon activities with the students
The day concluded with the annual Baltimore Catholic League Banquet. The annual basketball tournament begins Thursday, February 24.
