Everyone is itching to get going in the vegetable garden. But before you start tilling up the "back 40", get a plan. Julie Rebaud from Red Wagon Plants is offering two basic vegetable gardening class this weekend that will surely get you going in the right direction. You'll learn about variety selection, success planting, weeding, preserving the harvest and much more. The Sunday class at Shelburne Health and Fitness will also include a nutrition lecture with nutritionist Augusta Krahl and a colorful salad lunch. Here are the details.

Details: These two classes will help with your garden planning and teach the concept of succession planting. Sometimes home gardeners feel overwhelmed by their gardens - too much produce all at once, weeds out of control, and long spells without salad greens. Planning is everything! In this workshop, Julie will help you strategize for a bountiful harvest all spring, summer and fall. Learn some planning and growing tricks that help you time your crops so you avoid the "yikes a zucchini invasion!" or the "too-much-tomato jungle." You will also learn some quick and simple ways to preserve the harvest - drying, freezing, and canning - that easily fit into your weeknight routine or a weekend morning. This class will make a huge impact on your success, satisfaction and joy that comes with a carefully planned Vermont vegetable garden.
