See also

Are you interested in playing ice hockey? All of the basic skating skills listed below are also basic skating skills figure skaters need to master. Mastering certain basic ice skating skills will make playing more fun!

Skating may look easy, but if you don't know how to skate forward with speed, you can't play hockey.

All hockey players must be able to stop quickly on the ice. After stopping, a player must be able to move forward and gain speed.

Players must be able to curve in all directions when they play. Crossovers are the way skaters curve on the ice.

  • Pivot turns

Tight and quick turning skills are necessary in order for players to keep up with the puck.

  • Backward skating

In addition to moving forward on the ice, players must be able to skate backward.

Keep in mind that if you are going to play hockey, you will be doing a lot of falling down, but you will also need to get up as quickly as possible.

  • Turning around from forward to backward and backward to forward

Players need to be able to turn around on the ice quickly.
