Apparently, Mayor Bloomberg has put his beer where his baseball loyalties are. In the biggest beer-paired-with-politics story since the Beer Summit. Mayor Bloomberg, and the mayor of Minneapolis, R.T. Rybak, have bet a case of beer on the outcome of the Twins/Yankees competition for the American League division series
If the Yankees win, Bloomberg wins a bushel of honeycrisp apples and a case of beer from the Surly Brewing Company. If the Twins win, Mayor R.T. Rybak wins a case of Brooklyn lager (not Pennant Ale?) and yummy produce from New York's community gardens.
While football is my preferred sport, I have to say, I'll be watching this bet with interest. Being unfamiliar with the breweriers of Minnesota, I'm actually hoping for a Twins victory. Maybe the bet will help publicize breweries from MN, and make their beers easier to find here in New York. (If you've got a favorite, or know where a girl can find beer from the North Star State, drop me a line in the comments.)
Hey, Mayor Rybak, you up for a wager on the Giants game in Week 17? I'll bet homemade beer bread and a growler from Six Points or Greenport Brewing Company! If the Giants clobber Favre and the Vikings, you can send me some tasty Minnesota beer. And smoked walleye.
