When I ask people what they think grenadine is they always say cherry juice. Wrong! Grenadine is a red syrup that was originally made from pomegranate juice, cherry juice and sugar. Grenadine is not just cherry juice like most people like to believe. In fact, grenadine actually comes from the French word, "grenade" which means pomegranate. In most bars nowadays, grenadine consists almost entirely of a high-fructose corn syrup base.
Grenadine is used to make drinks like "cherry" cokes, pink lemonades, shirley temples and tequila sunrises.
Now, if someone asks you what grenadine is, you can tell them the correct answer. It isn't really just cherry juice. It's actually pomegranate juice AND cherry juice with a bunch of sugar.

Thanks! I was going to mention about customers eating from the fruit tray (one of my biggest pet peeves!) but thought I'd save that for another article on some customer "don'ts." I did throw in some jabs..."lack of impulse control" and "fruit tray theft," to tide me over until I address that issue properly.
