Barrier Lake, Alberta: A picturesque frozen lake in the Rockies

See also

The Canadian Rockies are filled with beautiful sights, one of which is Barrier Lake. Situated in Kananaskis Country in Alberta, Canada, the lake is a popular hiking spot among visitors. Not-surprisingly, it is also a popular photo spot, and movies have also been filmed at this stunning location.

One piece of advice in visiting the Canadian Rockies is to experience the area both in the wintertime and in the summertime, since the landscape changes dramatically. The picture to the left was taken at the beginning of March, when the lake is still frozen, surrounded by pale looming mountains under a grey sky. As the weather warms, that hint of frozen turquoise water will melt into a large body of vibrant teal-colored water, surrounded instead by lush green mountains under a bright blue sky. Both seasons bring a charm and different kind of beauty to the Rockies - and both visions (whether in warm or cold weather) are worth seeing!
