The juggernaut that is the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction rolled through Scottsdale on Wednesday with sales approaching 7.8 million for a two day total of just shy of 12 million dollars. Thursday brings added excitement in Arizona as Russo and Steele, RM and Bonham’s all commence their 2012 auction season with full dockets of fabulous automobiles.
Wednesday’s top seller for Barrett-Jackson at just under $98,000 was a stunning 1948 GMC COE truck. The truck was the recipient of a two year frame off restoration and was mounted on a late model GMC chassis and equipped with a 350cid V8, Turbo 400 automatic transmission and a 65 gallon fuel tank. It was finished in maroon and black with tasteful pinstriping and a custom red oak tongue and groove bed with a power lift gate.
Rounding out the list of top five sellers was a butternut yellow 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS convertible with a 327 that stunned this writer by achieving $88,000; a 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt re-creation that sold for $82,500; a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air custom two door sedan that fetched $79,200 and a head turning 1932 Studebaker Dictator custom two door coupe which brought $79,000.
Total sales results for Wednesday were 254 lots offered and sold for total sales of 7.76 million and a sell through rate of 100%. Average price paid was $31,284.
I’ll be back later in the week with more results from the auction action in Scottsdale.
