Barren River Lake to host two comedy shows

Barren River Lake State Resort Park, near Lucas, will remember two entertainment icons and their contributions to comedy with interpretive shows January 17 through January 19, 2014.

On Friday, at 7:00 p.m., the park will host “Grandpa Jones,” a performance about the life of Louis Marshall Jones, better known as “Grandpa” on television’s Hee Haw. David Hurt will portray Grandpa Jones and the show will highlight the music and comedy that made people smile for decades.

This show is free to the public thanks to Kentucky Humanities Council and Kentucky Chautauqua.

Driftwood Restaurant at Barren River Lake will be serving a buffet on Friday featuring catfish and frog legs for a cost of $13.99 per person. The park also has a special room rate for Friday of $49.95.

Barren River Lake will honor Red Skelton with a performance by J.B. Barnett on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for “Remembering a Legend – Tribute to Red Skelton” are $20.00 per person.

The park will offer two overnight deals for the weekend. A Saturday night package is priced at $135.00 (based on double occupancy) that includes a Saturday night lodge room, Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast, and two tickets to the Red Skelton show. The other package includes lodging for Friday and Saturday, dinner both Friday and Saturday, breakfast Saturday and Sunday, and two tickets to the Red Skelton show; this packaged is priced at $235.00 per couple.

Established as a state park in 1965, Barren River Lake State Resort Park facilities include a 51-room lodge overlooking a lake, 22 cottages each with two bedrooms and two baths, campgrounds, and the Driftwood Restaurant.

The park also offers meeting rooms, boating, fishing, golf, trails, horse stables, swimming, and picnic shelters. Nearby parks in the area are Mammoth Cave National Park, Old Mulkey Meeting House State Historic Site, and Dale Hollow State Resort Park.

Barren River Lake, near Glasgow, is less than 100 miles from Metro Louisville. From Louisville, take I-65 south to the Cumberland Parkway, east on the parkway to US-31E, and then south to the park. For complete and detailed directions, use Google Maps.
