We travel a lot with our rabbits so I am always looking for ways to make these trips go as smooth as possible. The more comfortable you can keep your rabbits, while traveling, the less stressful it is on them.
I like to give our rabbits hay while we are on the road; but giving hay in carriers can become messy. I have found a very handy way to give them hay during a trip, and it is another way to recycle.
I keep a lot of our toilet paper rolls, then when I get ready for a trip, I just cut them into five or six smaller rings; stuff them with hay and they are ready to go! Many of the rabbits love to play with their hay rolls and it keeps the hay contained so it does not get all spread out, stomped on and messed on.
These are easy to prepare in advance; we keep a five gallon bucket with an air tight lid on it; make up enough hay rolls for each rabbit going on the trip, plus a few extra. Each ring holds enough hay for the whole day and for many the hay can last a couple of days.
