In previous articles, like Barn tip: Disaster planning with Cage Tags I have talked about the different ways we use Cage Tags.
- Blue ID tags = bucks
- Greed ID tags = does
- Pink Nest box tags = breeding does
- Red blank tags = upcoming show information
- Orange black tags = temporary stays or illness that needs to be tended to
- Purple “For Sale” tags = rabbits we have for sale
- White blank tags = feeding instruction or temporary tags for babies before they are named.
- Yellow blank tags - We have now added yellow for anyone who is getting a special treatment in their water.
One of my favorite tags, and one we find very useful, is the plain blank red tags; these are our show tags. Cage Tags actually makes tags that say “Take me to the show”, but the plain ones seem to work best for us. When it is decided that a certain rabbit is going to a show, we hang one of these on his or her cage. Then we write on it, all the information that is needed at a show; ear number, rabbit's name, and class. Then when it's time to load up for the show that tag goes with that rabbit to his carry cage. When we are at the shows it is easy to look for which rabbit is in the next class. It works great because any of the kids know the tags, so any one of them can grab that rabbit and take him to be judged.
This also comes in very handy when we are all traveling together; many in our group often travel together and sometimes a lot of the rabbits may be in one vehicle. By using our show tags it is easy to spot which carriers belong to which family, or which rabbit belongs to which child.
