Luzerne County Republican Chairman Bill Urbanski has announced that two term Congressman Lou Barletta will be the featured guest at a pre-election rally this Wednesday evening in Kingston. The rally will be held on May 14, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gallery at Pierce Plaza, Pierce Street Deli, 517 Pierce Street in Kingston.
"Lou has done a terrific job representing the people of the 11th Congressional district," Urbanski said. "He has become a super star in his first two terms in Congress. We are proud that he calls Luzerne County home."
The event is open to the public. Light fare and drinks will be provided. A $20.00 per person donation is payable at the door. RSVP (requested but not required) to Kristin@LouBarletta.com.
Barletta was first elected to represent Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District in 2010, when he defeated long time incumbent Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-Nanticoke.) The third time proved the charm for Barletta, who previously ran unsuccessful bids to unseat Kanjorski in 2002 and 2008.
Barletta's trademark issue is illegal immigration. Barletta first addressed the issue when he was mayor of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He was the first mayor in the country to introduce and sign into law local ordinances cracking down against businesses that knowingly hire illegal aliens, and has since become a national figure in the fight against illegal immigration.
Barletta serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee.
The 11th Congressional District is comprised of all of Columbia, Montour, and Wyoming counties and parts of Carbon, Cumberland, Dauphin, Luzerne, Northumberland, and Perry counties. Major locations in the district include Harrisburg, Sunbury, Carlisle, Tunkhannock, Hazleton, Bloomsburg, and Danville.
