Thousands of bargain hunters are expected to browse and buy fishing gear, rods, reels, line, lures and tools at the Gigantic Nautical Flea Market Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23, at Founders Park, mile marker (MM) 87 bayside on Plantation Key in Islamorada. No more booth space is available.
The unique boating and marine bazaar attracts shoppers of all ages and interests. Most are aficionados, craftsmen and hobbyists who return each year to comb the more than 200 vendor booths for secondhand and show-price deals on boats, boat parts, electronics, marine products, nautical gear and dock equipment.
Clothing and accessories, such as sunglasses, for waterborne sports and recreation, as well as arts and crafts also feature prominently.
Flea market hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast can be purchased for $5 per person starting at 8 a.m. daily.
Parking is available at Coral Shores High School, MM 90 oceanside, with free shuttle transportation to the event grounds. Traffic is slow around the event so the shuttle provides a hassle-free option.
Admission to the open-air event is free, although a $5 donation is suggested. Money raised benefits the Upper Keys Rotary Foundation Scholarship fund. Annually, about $100,000 is provided to high school seniors.
