Barbra Streisand to perform at 85th Academy Awards

Singer Barbra Streisand will perform at the 85th Annual Academy Awards for the first time in 36 years, according to a Jan. 30, 2013, announcement from the show's producers and ABC Television Network. The two time Oscar winner will perform at the Academy Awards, which will be broadcast live on Feb. 24, 2013, on ABC Television Network.

Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, Calif. The show, hosted by funnyman Seth MacFarlane, will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Barbra Streisand is a two time Oscar winner. The diva has performed at the Oscars only once, when she sang the love theme from "A Star Is Born" on the March 28, 1977 show, winning the Best Original Song Oscar for "Evergreen" that same night.

"In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music," said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in a press release, "how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year's Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years."

Streisand won her first Oscar for Best Actress in "Funny Girl" in 1968. Her second Oscar was for Best Original Song for for "Evergreen" in "A Star is Born" in 1977.

Streisand was nominated in 1973 for her lead performance in "The Way We Were." She was nominated in 1991 for producing the Best Picture nominee, "The Prince of Tides," which she also directed. Her last nomination was in 1996, for co-writing the original song, "I Finally Found Someone," from "The Mirror Has Two Faces."

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron made the announcement that Streisand would be performing at the Oscars, but they did not offer information about what she would be singing.

The 85th Academy Awards is bound to be a program of strong female voices. The awards show will also feature performances by Adele and Norah Jones. Adele will sing her Oscar nominated song "Skyfall," from the latest James Bond film. Norah Jones will perform "Everybody Needs a Best Friend," a song she co-wrote with Oscar host Seth MacFarlane.
