We interrupt this regularly scheduled things-to-wear-this-Spring-starting-with-moisturizer series to bring you a little story of a company and its love affair with a particular plaid just in time for Valentine’s Day. In fact, consider this a guide of sorts as to what you might want to consider getting your man for Valentine’s Day since he is nice enough to get you roses from that truck and the end of the freeway ramp every year. It’s the least you could do...really.
Introducing Barbour. Back in the 80s, this company fell in love with a regional Tartan and they immediately became inseparable. Though the couple hit a bit of a rough patch in the 90s due to a particular competitor exploiting and overusing a plaid that has since become ubiquitous, they somehow made it through and have since become legally conjoined. Forevermore, the Tartan combination of brown, navy, white, gold, and red shall be that of the company known as Barbour.
If you want to dress your man up in order for him to be presentable in public, especially on that special day of hearts, cupids, roses and chocolates, consider this THE suggestion as to how. The love Barbour has for its Tartan comes through in everything it does, but the two items I think would be best for dolling up your dude come in the form of outerwear. As you know, Spring in the Bay Area can be a mixed bag of warm sunny afternoons followed by cold, foggy, breezy evenings, and the best way to be ready for such dramatic climatics is to have the right layers at hand.
In this case, I think the right layers are light outer layers, specifically a hat and jacket. Take a look at the Tartan Flat Cap and Reversible Harrington Jacket. Both are modern interpretations of classics that have been a part of a man’s wardrobe for longer than I’ve been alive. The Flat Cap is in the five-panel design club and is covered in Barbour’s proprietary plaid while the Reversible Harrington is a tailored, trimmed-down version of a generally boxier jacket.
Perhaps Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to splurge on the man in your life. If you feel like doing so while simultaneously making him look dapper, the folks at Barbour are here to help. Check them out here.
