Barbie’s Dream House is for sale, in Malibu, and the asking price is a cool $25 million dollars. The pink plastic mansion that has appeared in miniature under millions of Christmas trees is a real place – with a few inconveniences, reports the New York Times on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Yes, it’s big enough for humans to walk inside. Barbie’s Dream House has, in fact, more than 8,000 square feet of living space, but there’s only one bedroom, one bath, and – get this – there are only three walls. The whole structure is like a giant dollhouse, with its front door facing the street and an unobstructed ocean view – since the back wall is totally missing.
The people-sized dollhouse is set up as a tourist attraction, and it has 150 feet of beach, right on the Malibu sand. It is tooth-jarringly pink from floor to ceiling, with a pink kitchen and a working pink elevator to get from floor to floor. The house may become part of a touring attraction, currently scheduled for Florida and Germany.
But in the meantime, Barbie has this mansion up for sale because a different pad is in the works, to be unveiled soon. Is it a New York penthouse? An Aspen-style ski lodge? Frankly, the Malibu place is a hard act to follow.
