Barbie Doll Through the Decades
In honor of Barbie's 50th anniversary, the Belle Meade Plantation Belle Doll Club hosted Barbie Doll Through the Decades, a display of Barbie dolls through the years on Thursday, September 3 at Shoneys in Bellevue. Seven tables were set up, each table representing Barbie doll during a particular decade as well as two tables of anniversary dolls.
1960s Vintage Barbie Dolls
As guests entered the room, the first display on the right was the 1960s vintage dolls including blond brunette and titian ponytail Barbies, some bubble cuts, a Ken, Carla, Skipper and assorted other 1960s Barbies.
1970s Mod & Superstar Barbies
The next table paid tribute to Barbie's Superstar and Mod era as Barbie dolls from the 1970s filled the table. Bright pink, orange and yellow colors dominated the most colorful display table (see photo above and slideshow below).
Modern Barbie Dolls
The third table only held a few dolls indicated the 1980s may not have been a popular era for local collectors. The biggest display occupied two tables which held a variety of Barbie dolls from the 1990s through the present day, with another two tables displaying various anniversary editions and reproductions from Barbie's past birthdays.
Barbie Memories
Goodie bags were handed out to all guests with two different Barbie bags, Mattel Barbie doll brochures, Barbie keychains, Barbie luggage tags, Barbie notepads and other gift items courtesy of Mattel and the Belle Meade Plantation Belle Doll Club.
The displays brought back many fond memories for grown-up guests, and all the little girls oohed and ahed over the many beautiful Barbie dolls. See the slideshow below to get a small taste of the event.
Belle Meade Plantation Belle Doll Club
The Belle Meade Plantation Belle Doll Club was founded in 1997 and meets the first Thursday of every month at Shoney's Bellevue at 7 p.m.
