A Date With Barbie! and Ken too... The Altered Barbie Exhibit is about transforming these modern day icons, who permeate every corner of our culture. Everyone relates to Barbie, regardless of age or cultural background. So come and put Ken's head on Barbie's body, or give her a more realistic woman's shape. The sky's the limit!

The Altered Barbie Exhibition is a local creative re-use art show. Where: Shotwell 50 ART SPACE (S50AS): 50 Shotwell between 14th & 15th St.

9/11 & 9/18 SCRAP Workshops at S50AS: A Date With Barbie!
Think Barbie out of the Box! Alter and recycle your own Barbie and or Ken by embellishing and/or building an environment for them.

9/15/10: The Artists Process: A Conversation: How and why they alter Barbie. This will be a fun filled eye opening evening into the inner workings of these most creative and fun artists.

9/16/10 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Artist's Reception-A Date With Barbie: Come dressed as your favorite Barbie or Ken, meet the artists who have resurrected and reinvented Ken and Barbie into art and performance. The evening will include Barbie Films, Barbie Performance, Barbie MC, El Radio Fantastique!, Gregangelo's American Icon!, belly dance and more!

9/22/10: 7-9 Fundraiser and Panel Discussion with Roadawgz and participating Altered Barbie artists.

Julie Andersen and Chatterbox International have been hosting the Altered Barbie shows since 2003. The organization is dedicated to creating multidimensional, multiplatform exhibitions that bring emerging and established artists of all ages and all cultural backgrounds together.

Shotwell Inc-Shotwell 50 Art Space (S5AS) promotes the exhibition and exchange of art as a common dialogue between diverse local and international artists to advance the understanding of cultural traditions, human welfare, and the impact on the global environment.
